Ok I got them! A singing bird contest. A very important one near the Phuket Police Station with hundreds of these ‘punk chanting birds’ named in Thai Nok Krong Kua Tuk, or to be more proper red-whiskered bulbul. The atmosphere is rather easy-going, with everybody generally over excited. It works in this way: bird owners continuously call out their birds' names and make specific noises to urge them to sing, while the referee carefully listens and counts the warbled notes. The winner had 9 calls. The Ronaldo bird of Phuket.

Ok, li ho beccati finalmente. Una gara canora di uccelli nei pressi della stazione di polizia di Phuket Town con diverse centinaia di questi ‘fischiettanti punk-birds’ chiamati dai Thai 'Nok Krong Kua Tuk' o più propriamente in inglese red-whiskered bulbul. L’atmosfera è quella di un grande match, rilassata ma piena di eccitazione. I proprietari - al turno stabilito - chiamano e fanno versi strani ai propri uccelli in modo da farli gorgheggiare il maggior numero di volte possibile. I giudici prendono nota. Il vincitore, il Ronaldo dei volatili di Phuket, ha cantato ben 9 volte.
